What is included?

The wallPen E2 wall printer (CMYK), an ink starter kit with 800 ml of UV ink, 500 ml flushing liquid, a fully equipped toolbox, an 8-inch Android tablet, a complete set of transport bags, the wallPen OS 3.0 software, two days of training for up to two people at our works, and 12 months of warranty, support and software updates.

Do you really develop and build the wallPen in Germany?

Yes. Development and production are at our works in Wissen, between Cologne and Frankfurt — and you are welcome to visit. Just ask us for an appointment.

Are there several models?

No — there is one machine, the wallPen E2, and options that grow with the work: the track system, the vertical axis extension, Apex, Track Guard and white printing. Most of them can be added later.

How much does the wallPen weigh?

The base unit weighs 89 kg in total, spread over six transport bags. The heaviest bag weighs around 22 kg, so one person can carry and store it.

Does it need a special power supply?

No. The wallPen runs on any standard socket from 100 to 250 V. It draws around 200 W while printing — less than a hair dryer — and under 40 W when idle.

Do I need a master craftsman’s certificate (Meisterbrief) in Germany?

No. According to the final ruling of the Administrative Court of Berlin of 19 February 2025 (VG 4 L 847/24), working with the wallPen does not require a Meisterbrief.

Printing

How does the wallPen work?

Four or five separate drop-on-demand inkjet heads (RICOH GH2220) print CMYK and optional white directly onto the wall. The machine travels along the wall on a patented wheeled platform guided by laser sensors. Rails are not required, but are recommended on uneven floors.

How does setting up work?

You carry the transport bags to the wall, assemble the machine with a single tool in about five minutes, align it, load the motif and start printing.

How large can the wallPen print?

Width is unlimited. In the standard configuration the print height is 1.7 m or 2.4 m; with the vertical axis extension it goes from 1.7 to 4 m in 10 cm steps. Near adjacent walls, the floor and the ceiling the machine leaves a margin of about 6 cm on the left, 10 cm on the right and 25 cm at the top and bottom.

Can it cope with uneven floors and walls?

Yes. A levelling system compensates for uneven floors, and laser sensors measure the wall in real time while the print head follows its surface.

How long does a print take?

From around 1 m² per hour in the finest quality up to 16 m² per hour in draft mode. Most jobs run at around 2 to 3 m² per hour, which balances time and quality well. A white underlayer doubles the time.

What is the print resolution?

Between 300 and 1,200 dpi; most motifs are printed at 600 × 720 dpi. On a wall that is viewed from a distance, a genuine 600 dpi is more than enough.

What can be printed?

Almost any graphic, photo, logo or text — even small lettering next to doors. AI, EPS, TIF, PSD, PNG, JPG and BMP files work, and paper originals can be scanned at high resolution and printed large.

Which software controls the wallPen?

wallPen OS 3.0, our own software, runs as an app on Windows, macOS, iOS and Android and connects to the machine over Wi-Fi — for example from the included tablet. Before every job it previews size, ink use and print time, and a simulation mode lets you try it out before the machine arrives.

Can it print on curved walls?

Yes. A motor-driven steering system in the front axis lets the machine follow curved surfaces.

Is there a manual?

Yes — a detailed manual of more than 200 pages in English, supplied as a PDF with the machine.

Ink, surfaces & durability

Which ink does the wallPen use?

A low-odour, vegan, ISO-certified UV ink made in Europe. UV LED lamps cure it the moment it is printed. It comes in 200 ml bottles and can be refilled at any time, even during a pause in printing.

How much ink does a square metre take?

Around 5 to 10 ml per m², depending on the motif — in our experience €2 to €5 of ink per m².

Does the ink expire?

UV ink keeps for at least 9 to 12 months from delivery.

Can I refill single colours or use other ink?

Each colour is refilled separately, cleanly and with very little waste, through a port on the back of the print head housing. Please use only wallPen ink: third-party ink voids the warranty.

Which surfaces can be printed?

Plaster, wallpaper, emulsion paint, wood, brick, clinker, natural stone, concrete, metal, glass, plastic and most tiles — smooth or textured, up to a surface depth of about 10 mm. Dark, coloured and transparent surfaces need white printing underneath.

How durable is the print?

The ink is dry straight away, adheres strongly and is scratch-resistant. Indoors the colours stay stable for up to 12 years, depending on surface, location and wear. Outdoors, UV resistance is around 2 years, and more than 5 years with a clear UV protective coat.

Can a print be removed again?

Yes. On glass it comes off with a scraper or razor blade; on most walls two or three coats of paint cover it. Wood needs sanding, and metal or concrete are blasted — with sand, cork, dry ice or glass beads.

How do I pay?

By bank transfer, including international transfers, or by letter of credit from your bank. The machine is shipped or handed over once the final invoice is paid.

How long is the delivery time?

The delivery date is agreed with our sales team when you order — usually within a few weeks.

What does shipping cost?

The machine ships ex works Wissen. Many customers from Germany and neighbouring countries take it home by car after the training. We also ship by express or air freight, usually with DHL Express — around €300 to €600 within Europe and €900 to €1,800 worldwide, plus €180 for packaging. We will quote for your country.

Do you ship worldwide?

Yes, by air freight within a few days.

What about taxes and duties?

Taxes, customs duties and fees in the buyer’s country are paid by the buyer.

Can I finance the machine?

Yes. We help with financing through partners and work out the terms with you. The business case calculator shows what the machine earns at your own prices.

Is buying a wallPen subsidised?

Often, yes — many countries and regions support investment in new technology, though the programmes differ widely. Check with your local business development agency, or ask us: we know which programmes customers have used.

What do you have to do with the “Chinese wallPen”?

Nothing. Machines sold under our name abroad are copies: they use our protected trademark without permission and are not developed, supported or supplied by us — no software updates, no ink and no spare parts from wallPen.

Service & warranty

Is there a warranty?

Yes: 12 months on the machine, plus 48 months of personal warranty on machine components for the first buyer (not transferable, wear parts excluded).

What does support cost?

Hotline support and software updates are included for the first 12 months. After that, service is billed fairly and transparently.

Where do I find help?

From your local wallPen partner or directly from us in Germany. Many questions are already answered in the manual and in our help desk at service.wallpen.com, which every customer can use free of charge.

What does the training cover?

Two days of hands-on training and certification for up to two people at our works in Wissen. It can also be held online, or at your premises for an extra charge.

How long do the print heads last?

With proper care, several years. Each colour has its own head, so if one fails only that head is replaced — not a combined unit.

How do I order spare parts?

From your local wallPen partner or directly from us. Most parts ship from stock in Germany; accessories such as custom axis extensions can take up to 30 working days.

Can I insure the machine?

Rules differ too much between countries for one policy, so ask your local insurer about cover against theft, damage or liability. In Germany we are happy to put you in touch with suitable insurers.
