Ten years at the wall. And at nothing else.

For a decade wallPen has developed and built exactly one thing: the technology that prints artwork directly onto walls. Developed, manufactured and supported in Wissen an der Sieg — by people you can call.

The wallPen story

From first prototype to the original of a category.

2015 · Two lessons from China

Andreas Schmidt, by then 25 years into 3D CAD/CAM, sets out to import Chinese wall printers. The first machine ($18,000) catches fire on its first print attempt and the maker disappears. The second runs unreliably — ink failures, sensor faults, software crashes. Almost $40,000 lost, and one conclusion gained: “I’ll build it myself.”

2015–2016 · Made in Germany

Components from leading EU manufacturers, in-house software, the first employees — among them Ramazan Köprülü, who develops the control system that works. In June 2016 the first successful wall print succeeds: a knight, in black and white. Word spreads through forums around the world and the first firm orders arrive.

2017 · The wallPen E1 launches

The first wallPen E1 units leave Wissen an der Sieg for the world.

2018–2020 · From product to system

The E1plus with reworked axis technology and UV curing, the in-house RIP software “wallPen Processor” in generations 2 and 3, three profitable years in a row, ten employees, a move to Etzbach — and almost 50% growth despite the pandemic.

2021 · The wallPen E2

After two years of development: completely redesigned, with in-house hardware and software, higher resolution and speed. A move into premises twice the size on Werkstraße in Wissen.

2022–2023 · The category picks up speed

One hundred systems sold in a year, weekly training courses, white ink after more than two years of development — and a team of thirty.

2024 · Smarter and larger

A first appearance at one of the world’s largest print trade fairs, an extension of the workshop on site, and wallPen OS v3 with an app and automatic print-time reduction.

Today · 10 years of wallPen

A growing community of operators, a partner network for projects — and a market that is only just waking up. We are celebrating with 10 Stories and 10 Walls for 10 Years.

Who we are

A machine builder with paint on its hands.

“A product lives on the ambition and enthusiasm of a strong, motivated team.” Around thirty people develop, build, test, train and support in Wissen an der Sieg — from software developers to the production floor. What separates us from importers: we build the machine, we train the operators, and we hold the spare parts in stock. And we say honestly what our process cannot do — you can read that on every page of this site.
